Derek Luke describes his journey to starring in NBC’s ‘Trauma’
Posted by Z.Marie on October 19th, 2009 · Filed Under: 'Trauma', General News

Derek Luke had one big reason for signing up for his first television series.

He had worked with executive producer Peter Berg before. Luke, who plays paramedic Cameron Boone on “Trauma” (tomorrow at 9 p.m. on WHDH, Ch. 7), appeared in Berg’s 2004 film “Friday Night Lights.”

‘When I did ‘Friday Night Lights’ with him, I remember him giving us this speech,” Luke said in a recent interview in Pasadena, Calif.

“He said, ‘Some of you guys think you’re famous, but this movie is really going to make you.’ He just had this bravado. After that, he won over my heart because his style was a lot of power, but you couldn’t contain it. At the end of filming, we all just felt something dynamic.

“When I found out about ‘Trauma’ and heard he was attached, I thought, ‘Let me give it a try because he understands.’ ”

The New Jersey native described his character as a “complex family man without a filter. His trauma and his drama is the fact that he doesn’t know how to deal with work and how it’s affecting him. There’s a slogan I’ve come up with for Boone – he wants to bring a piece of home to work but instead he’s bringing a piece of work home.” Continue Reading?

HELP SAVE TRAUMA!
Posted by Z.Marie on October 12th, 2009 · Filed Under: 'Trauma'

Trauma revolves around a group of brave men and women who risk their lives to save others. But now, it’s them who need the saving. The ratings for NBC’s new high-action drama have not been good and, unless they improve, Trauma will be cancelled.

Remember, the most important thing to NBC is for people to watch the show on their television sets while it’s being broadcast. Downloading, watching online, or watching on a DVR days later is all very nice but it really doesn’t help a show’s ratings.

If you like Trauma and want to see it continue, there are a few things you can do to help.

1. Watch the show each week, preferably live, and encourage others to do the same. You might know a Nielsen family and not know it.

2. Talk about the show with others; at school, at work, online, or wherever. Creating a buzz about a show gets people interested and invested in watching.

3. Sign the petition below and encourage others to do the same.

4. Write to the network. Be respectful. Everyone responds better to courtesy. Tell them how much you enjoy the show, that you’ve signed the petition, and that you want to see it continue. You can use this form or, even better, write via snail-mail to: Mr. Jeff Gaspin, Chairman, NBC, 3000 W. Alameda Burbank, CA 91523, RE: Trauma

5. Take note of the products that you see advertised consistently during the show. Write the advertisers and tell them that you appreciate their sponsoring the show and that you buy their products (if you do).

Follow this link and scroll down to sign the petition! And do the above if you can, let’s keep this show on the air! :)

Derek Luke’s real ‘Trauma’ on the set
Posted by Z.Marie on October 11th, 2009 · Filed Under: 'Trauma', Streaming Audio

Derek Luke learned plenty about the life of an Emergency Medical Technician thanks to the realistic sequences in his new show Trauma.

Luke says the cast has been asked to get awfully close to the action and that’s given him more than his fair share of injuries; from burns to scrapes plus cuts and bruises.

Still, he’s giving it his all and now has enormous respect for real EMTs who witness tragedies daily.

Luke actually spent time on a few ride alongs with the techs and was shocked by not only the physical drain it has on the professionals, but the emotional situations they deal with as well – which he saw firsthand.
